Día 24 de Mayo

Ya estoy metido de lleno en tierra. Los problemas empiezan a surgir uno detrás del otro. El principal escollo al que me enfrento en este momento es el nuevo barco de apoyo. Como sabéis, el "HARMONIE" no es una embarcación indicada para este tramo y lo tengo contratado hasta julio. Tiene que zarpar con urgencia mañana mismo porque la temporada de huracanes comienza el primero de junio y tiene que salir de la zona del Caribe (nosotros nos quedamos aquí, pero si hay graves problemas meteorológicos, siempre que contemos con una buena previsión y el factor suerte, podemos refugiarnos en tierra).

El "HARMONIE" necesita un mes para regresar a Francia y antes ha de parar en Port Ginesta para dejar la "NUMANCIA 2" (moto acuática de reserva) y todo el material del tramo trasatlántico que ya no se va a necesitar en la nueva etapa. También para quitar los dos enormes tanques de combustible que instalamos en Barcelona y arreglar todos los anclajes que se tuvieron que hacer en su día para garantizar una instalación segura de los mismos. Por eso, desde antes de zarpar de Canarias, tenía ya apalabrada una nueva embarcación que debe llegar hoy desde el sur de Florida para apoyarme hasta los EE.UU.

Después de intentar localizar durante todo el día a los responsables del barco, al final me entero de que sigue en Miami. No ha zarpado aún. Tiene un problema en los motores y no puede zarpar por ahora.

Me encuentro ante un problema grave que tengo que solucionar rápidamente. Mi situación es la siguiente: tengo a seis personas a mi cargo con sus enseres, todas las piezas de recambio de la "NUMANCIA", incluyendo dos motores de reserva y una gran cantidad de material que hemos estado clasificando durante todo el día. Mañana hay que sacarlo del barco y no se donde ponerlo.

Con este "problemón" en la cabeza, estamos invitados esta noche a una cena que nos ofrece el Primer Ministro. En la cena se hará el acto de hermanamiento que os conté. Aunque estoy agotado y preocupadísimo, me emociono (una vez más) cuando leo la carta del Presidente del Parlamento de Canarias ante las banderas de Antigua y España juntas, con las de Canarias y Navarra. El Primer Ministro sostiene la de España y yo la de Antigua. Como ya os adelanté que se haría, ha resultado un precioso y emotivo acto de hermanamiento que una vez más ha reafirmado el sentido de un esfuerzo. Esfuerzo que, aun sabiendo de antemano que nunca será valorado, me da muchísima ilusión y ánimo para seguir.

Se han pronunciado palabras en inglés, de respeto y reconocimiento hacia España y su imborrable huella por estos mares y tierras. Historia antigua de un Imperio. Dudo que alguna vez haya ondeado por estas latitudes la bandera de Navarra. Pocas veces la tricolor Canarias. Seguro que jamás la de España junto a estas suyas, al lado de la de Antigua. Por todo ello, ver y notar esta noche en la remota Isla americana de Antigua el respeto y afecto manifestado hacia nuestras banderas, ha significado mucho para mí. Sé que me va a dar energía para encontrar un barco mañana y poder seguir honrando en estas tierras y mares los símbolos de nuestra vieja y admirada Patria.
